Rules for Using Natural Parks

Rules For Personal Use

Within Japan's national parks, please observe the following rules to allow all visitors to have a pleasant experience, while getting acquainted with and enjoying the parks naturally.

1.Be sure to carry your trash home.

Littering in the parks runs the risk of affecting the natural environment and beauty, as well as the animals. When visiting a natural park, do not discard your trash, and instead carry it back to your home or hotel.

2.Stay on the mountain trails.

Stepping off the trail runs the risk of damaging the vegetation, so be sure to stay on the mountain trails and other existing paths.

3.Treat the wildlife and minerals with respect.

Collecting and removing wildlife and minerals runs the risk of harming precious natural resources, so refrain from doing so.

4.Do not feed wild animals or approach them in a reckless manner.

Do not feed wild animals, because this could lead to them becoming familiar with humans. Additionally, regardless of the time of day or night, do not threaten or scare wild animals.

5.Enjoy the sounds of nature.

Natural parks are awash with the sounds of nature, such as the wind, streams, and birdsong. Listen to the ambient sounds and do not block your ears with earphones or other devices. This will help you avoid accidents due to falling rocks or collisions with other park visitors.

6.Tell someone where you're going before you go into the mountains.

Tell your family, friends, or acquaintances where you are headed, and for your own peace of mind, submit a copy of the path you are going to take when you go mountain climbing. Make a point of doing this, particularly if you plan to hike alone.

7.When hiking in a group, take care not to inconvenience other guests, such as by occupying park facilities.

In general, the smaller group has the right of way when crossing paths with a larger group.

8.If you smoke, be considerate of other patrons.

Many people come to national parks for the fresh air. Avoid smoking in crowded places and be considerate of other patrons. Also, do not litter your cigarette butts.

9.When using mountain-climbing equipment, be careful not to damage the natural environment or the park facilities.

Use the mountain trails with care, such as by placing rubber caps on trekking poles and avoiding the use of crampons on surfaces that are not covered with snow.

10.Do not bring plants and animals with you that could affect the ecosystem.

To avoid introducing animals that do not inhabit the area, do not leave flora or fauna within the area of the natural parks. Also, before entering a natural park, remove any soil and seeds from your footwear and clothing.
