Features of Niijima Island and Shikinejima Island

Niijima Island’s Long White Beaches and Shikinejima Island’s Ria Coast

Niijima Island and Shikinejima Island are located approximately 160 kilometers (99.4 miles) south of Tokyo. Their climate is slightly milder than that of Tokyo, with pleasant sea breezes making summer on the islands much more comfortable than in the intense heat of Tokyo. The air is very clear, allowing stargazers a breathtaking view of a night sky full of stars.
Niijima Island attracts people for its blue ocean, white sandy beaches, lush green mountains, and the traditions and history of the island that have been preserved since ancient times. Shikinejima Island is a small island, whose circumference of approximately 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) can be walked. The highest point is Mt. Kanbiki, which has an altitude of 99 meters (324.8 feet) and is surrounded by plenty of greenery. The ria coast is home to a wide variety of fish and shellfish.
