Park Volunteers

Tokyo's park volunteers operate with the visitor centers as their base. There are four registered groups of park volunteers based at the Mitake, Takao, and Okutama Visitor Centers. For details, please contact the Tama Environment Office.

Recruitment Period

Applications must be postmarked between Monday, October 2, and Tuesday, October 31, 2017.

How to Apply

Send a reply-paid postcard with the following information to the application address listed below.

  • On the postcard , please include the following information:
  1. The phrase "Tokyo-to, Tama kankyo jimusho, Shizen kankyo-ka, Shizen-koen Volunteer kibo"
    (This addresses the postcard to the person in charge of natural park volunteer applications in the Natural Environment Section of the Tama Environment Office of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.)
  2. The volunteer group you wish to join (Please write the name of the Mt. Mitake volunteer group, the Mt. Takao volunteer group, or either of the Okutama volunteer groups.)
  3. Address
  4. Name
  5. Age
  6. Telephone number
  • On the return postcard, write your (the applicant's) name and address.

Approximately 20 volunteers per group (There is a screening process.)

Overview of the Volunteer System

Our natural park volunteers work together with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and with our visitor center guides.

System

Our volunteer system is based on the document "Outline of the Natural Park Volunteer System of the Tama Environment Office of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government."

Activities

  1. Activities related to environmental education, such as the planning and running of nature classes
  2. Activities related to the guidance and instruction of visitors to the natural parks
  3. Activities related to gathering information about nature, such as surveys of local flora and fauna
  4. Activities related to maintaining and preserving park facilities, such as cleaning and beautification
  5. Other activities
